Jessie, by Joshua Kadison: A Distraction

I was trying to work hard the other day when my husband, Phil, mentioned to me that he had been listening to a song called Jessie by Mother Earth. It suddenly made me think of a song my mother used to play when I was younger, also called Jessie, by Joshua Kadison.

Here’s the youtube link: Jessie on Youtube

The chorus lyrics are:

Jessie paint your pictures ’bout how it’s gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea;
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me.

I know it’s not an entirely postive song about this girlie, Jessie, but it is about someone that dreams big and is willing to give it a go making those dreams happen. It just struck me that people often refer to me as a dreamer, someone not afraid to take a risk to see a dream come true either. The songs rather apt, as well as me sharing the name and it made me stop and think for a bit.

Anyone else have songs they listen to and it reminds them of themselves (not just because of the name of the person being sung about)?

    Just found one. Sweating Bullets by Megadeth. Not a very nice song, but very true of some of the inner me. I get very anxious about myself and how I’m appearing to those I’m close to and will beat myself over actions of mine I feel are hurting others. I can be quite anxious over them, and while the sweat isn’t physical, its an anxiety I feel that almost feels like little bullets.

    I know that doesn’t seem positive, which I imagine is what you were hoping for, but to me it is. It shows I care and put others quite highly in my thought life, which not many others do. It may have some negative effects on me sometimes, but all sacrifice does, else it wouldn’t be a sacrifice. I’m not bragging in this however, as I know some fo this is dysfunction, but it is me, to the core.

    Also, Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park is very me. Or at least, its a feeling expressed by someone I empaphise with a lot. Tonight is going to be the night of change is a common thought, though the result isn’t always as great as the desired effect.

    This is a bit melancholic isn’t it? Oh well, there it is.

      That is a little bit melancholic but still I get what you mean. I shall check both songs out. I’m fairly sure I’ve heard the Linkin park one but never hear Sweating Bullets. I think a lot of songs tend to only means oemthing at certain periods. I’d have said 7 years ago Beautiful disaster was a very apt song about me but it’s not anymore.

    Did you know that song is about Sarah Jessica Parker? Pretty apt, I thought…
